Ri's Thoughts and Ramblings

I just finished Vanishing Acts by Jodi Picoult. I found most of the book really compelling and full of emotion. The story focuses on Delia at age 32 learning she was kidnapped by her father when she was 4 years old. It progresses through the trial and the turmoil that acoompanies it. In finest Picoult style, the story is told through the voices of several characters, weaving a pattern of emotion and variation on the "truth". The only criticism I have about the story are the scenes in the prison. While it develops Andrew's character, several scenes felt superfluous and the raps felt forced and artifical. Picoult shines when she is writing about emotion and the many perspectives on a situation. Those were the truly beautiful parts of this novel.
